Convert JPG to WebP
Make lighter images for your website or blog. WebP files are usually smaller than JPG at a similar quality, and every current browser shows them.
Your image will be processed on this device.
How to convert JPG to WebP
- Select or drop one or more JPG or PNG images.
- Set the quality.
- Select Convert to WebP and download.

Worked example: two JPGs to WebP
In this test, at 92% quality, a 512 x 512 JPG portrait of 73 KB became a 57 KB WebP, 22% smaller, and a 600 x 400 JPG of 71 KB became a 67 KB WebP. Lowering the quality to 80% makes the savings larger.
Using WebP on a website
Every current browser displays WebP, so it is a good choice for images on your own website or blog, where smaller files make pages load faster. Some upload forms, email clients and older programs still expect JPG or PNG, so keep the originals.
Choosing the WebP quality
At the default of 92%, WebP looks the same as the JPG and is usually somewhat smaller. At 75% to 80% the saving is larger and the difference is hard to see on screen. PNG images with transparency keep it when converted to WebP, which makes WebP a good replacement for large transparent PNGs on a website.
Good to know
- Saving WebP works in Chrome, Edge and Firefox on computers and Android. Safari, and every browser on iPhone and iPad, cannot save WebP from a web page, so the option is hidden there.
- PNG images with transparency keep it as WebP.
Why your images stay on your device
RedactNinja Image runs in your web browser. When you choose an image, it is read and processed on your own computer, tablet or phone. It is not uploaded to a server, so there is nothing for us to store, look at or delete afterwards. The background remover and face finder use small AI models that your browser downloads from this site the first time you need them; the models come to your image, not the other way round.
You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, select the Network tab and use a tool. Your image does not appear in the requests. The tools load no advertising or analytics code. How to check that nothing is uploaded.
Free, with no sign-up and no watermark
Every tool is free to use without an account. Nothing is added to your images, and there are no daily limits. Very large images depend on your device's memory, so older phones may be slower.
